Nimble Fingers Board
Nimble Fingers Officers - 2010-2011

The Nimble Fingers Quilters, Inc. is an active, diverse group of dedicated quilters who come together to promote the study, practice and sharing of quilting arts. Our work ranges from traditional hand-pieced, hand-quilted bed quilts to machine-pieced, machine-quilted contemporary art quilts. Our skills range from experienced masters to enthusiastic beginners.

Community service is a priority and our guild sponsors several service projects such as making quilts for the National Center for Families and Children, the Betty Anne Krahnke Center, and for families moving into Habitat for Humanity homes in Montgomery County. Many of our members also make children’s  pillowcases for the ConKerrCancer project.

The guild was begun in 1974 by Fay Goldey who invited a few friends to her house to quilt. Now with over 125 members, we celebrated our 35th anniversary in 2009 with a lecture and trunk show by member Lois Smith, internationally recognized quilt teacher and author.

The monthly meetings feature a lecture by a guest speaker or other educational program, a show of members’ work, a short business session and conclude with a luncheon. (There is a small cost when deli sandwiches are served; otherwise the luncheons are provided by members.) Workshops presented by the guest speakers are usually held the day(s) following the meeting.

Membership is open to all interested persons upon payment of annual dues. In addition to the guild meeting, members receive a bi-monthly newsletter, can attend the monthly bee and participate in the service projects (see Events and Service Projects) , borrow books from the Nimble Fingers library (see Library), and participate in the Quilt Show (see Quilt Show). If you are interested in joining Nimble Fingers, we invite you to attend a meeting, as our guest, before deciding.

Co-Presidents’ Message –

Linda August and Patty Estey

The entire Board and members of Nimble Fingers want to thank Ruan Robertson, Priscilla Lai, Anne Datko and Ellie Lomax for their hard work to make our Guild so successful.  Jobs well done!

After a miserable Maryland winter, we are now treated to the annual flourish of spring colors.  Become inspired to start a quilt reflecting the rich colors of azaleas, tulips, daffodils or pink dogwoods.  Try a new technique.  Finish a UFO.  Commit to serving on a Nimble Fingers committee. Volunteer to work at the October Nimble Fingers Quilt show.  For new (and old) members, the very best approach to becoming an integral part of Nimble Fingers is to volunteer.  It is fun and rewarding. On the subject of volunteering, we want to put out the call for a volunteer, individual or group, to take over Quilting for Others.  Beth Smith did a phenomenal job as chairperson but is moving out of the area.  Please consider volunteering for this key job in our guild.

We look forward to working with our VP Pat Lefevre, Secretary Evelyn Farinas and Treasurer Barbara Kilby.  As fairly new members ourselves, we also look forward to getting to know more of the membership.  Bear with us as we learn your names. And of course, call or email any of the members of the Board with comments or suggestions.

We plan to hold our first board meeting after the June guild meeting.  Committee chairs should plan to attend and all members are always welcome.  We will send out an agenda closer to the June meeting date.

As this is the last newsletter until September, we would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a great summer!  When we reconvene in September, the quilt show will be our number one priority.

Membership - Ruth Cohen, Margaret Natof, Ronnie Sullivan
There are NF Membership Lists available for sending via email.  If you can download and print an Excel spreadsheet, then you can save the guild money by requesting that the list be sent via email.  Please consider this option.

The membership dues for 2007-2008 are $25 per year.  Considering all that we get for our dues and the rising costs of places to meet, I believe that this is a small amount.  In addition, prompt payment of dues also helps when the 2007-2008 budget is prepared.

Thank you for your patience this year as I learned a new job and survived losing all my information to the black hole of lost computer data.

Sincerely, Ruth Cohen, Margaret Natof, Ronnie Sullivan
